Job Description:
The Project Coordinator in the School of Public and
International Affairs (SPIA) at Virginia Tech provides
executive-level coordination across a diverse portfolio of academic
programs, strategic initiatives, and special projects, reporting
directly to the School Director. This role serves as a key partner
in the development and management of Executive Masters Programs,
Continuing Professional Education, the Washington Experience Summer
Programs, and SPIA graduate certificates, ensuring alignment with
institutional goals and emerging needs within SPIA. The Project
Coordinator plays a central role in program implementation, with
responsibilities spanning project planning, financial analysis,
event coordination, marketing, and enrollment strategy. This
includes developing financial models and scenario planning to
support strategic decision-making, assisting with curriculum
implementation and program accreditation, and coordinating
operational logistics for new and existing programs. The Project
Coordinator also leads outreach and enrollment management for
SPIA’s graduate certificate programs and serves as a liaison with
university offices to ensure compliance and efficient program
delivery. Additionally, the Project Coordinator manages the
Ridenour Faculty Fellowship Endowment (RFFE), overseeing program
planning, and relationship management with faculty, students, and
external partners. The role supports the execution of high-impact
events and special projects that enhance SPIA’s academic community,
foster collaboration, and increase the school’s visibility. This
position may be based in either Blacksburg, VA or Arlington, VA,
depending on the candidate’s preference and institutional needs. As
SPIA operates across both campuses, the role will require regular
collaboration with faculty, staff, and partners in each location.
Occasional travel between campuses is anticipated to support
in-person programming, events, and strategic coordination. Required
Qualifications Master’s degree in Public Administration, Public
Policy, or a related field; or a bachelor’s degree with substantial
professional experience in project coordination. Demonstrated
experience providing operational leadership within a complex
university or comparable organizational structure. Exceptional
interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work effectively with
diverse stakeholders and constituencies. Strong verbal and written
communication skills. Proven ability to analyze and interpret
policies and procedures and provide well-supported recommendations
to senior leadership. Demonstrated ability to work independently
and apply high-level problem-solving skills. Proficient in
producing clear and effective written communication across various
formats. Familiarity with university practices, policies, and
procedures. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google
Workspace (Docs, Sheets, etc.). Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with Virginia Tech systems (e.g., MicroStrategy,
Canvas, Banner) or the ability to quickly learn institutional
platforms. Experience in higher education administration,
particularly in managing graduate-level academic programs.
Understanding of academic program development and accreditation
processes. Experience planning and managing events for professional
or academic audiences. Knowledge of the field of public and
international affairs, including current trends and relevant career
pathways. Overtime Status Exempt: Not eligible for overtime
Appointment Type Regular Salary Information $75,000 to $80,000
