--- And much more---Position Summary:Performs technical and clerical functions in one or more sections of the laboratory. Contributes to the overall operation of the laboratory by receiving, preparing, and processing patient samples prior to analysis. --Handles telephone inquiries, performs computer and billing functions. --

• Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.
• Maintains adequate stock of supplies.
• Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.
• Performs clerical duties including answering phones, data entry, and filing.
• Communicates test results to appropriate healthcare providers.
• Verifies proper patient and/or specimen identification, payer type, and diagnosis code before processing specimens.
• Ensures that specimens are received or accessioned and labeled accurately and completely.
• Distributes specimens, results, etc., to appropriate departments in a timely manner.
• Notifies department supervisor of significant problems related to specimens, instruments or test orders.
• Assesses sample adequacy and recognizes samples of unacceptable quality; documents and informs client of problem.
• Print reports as necessary to appropriate locations, ensuring patient confidentiality.
