License: Valid RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Must-Have: General nursing skills General ICU skills Experience
with cardiology patients Swanz and Impella experience required
Wound care and dressing changes experience Management of and
pulling sheaths experience Experience with BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow
oxygen, chest tubes, tracheostomies, arterial lines Ability to
manage and administer all drips, including pressors, cardiac, and
sedation Description: This is an opportunity to work in a new unit
opening soon. The unit will start as a high-acuity Progressive Care
Unit and transition to an Intensive Care Unit by the end of the
duration. Patient types will include individuals with heavy cardiac
issues such as CHF, cardiomyopathy, tamponade, shock, STEMI/NSTEMI,
post-cath, dysrhythmias, arrhythmias, post-pacemaker/ablation, and
post-CABG/open hearts. Heart transplant patients and post-vascular
surgeries will also be common, with a focus on managing 2-4 heart
transplants per month. Initially, the nurse-to-patient ratio will
be 1:3-4 and transition to 1:2-3 when in the intensive care
setting. Even stable patients waiting for transplants could have a
1:3 ratio. The position requires experience with post-surgical
care, as several patients will have undergone surgical procedures.
Once in the intensive care stage, nurses will care for fresh
open-heart patients. Experience with LVAD and post-cardiac
transplant patients is highly preferred, but training will be
available. This position does not involve ECMO, and IABPs will be
accepted once transitioned to ICU. Support within the department
includes 1 CNA and a charge nurse who does not take patients. A
manager will be present in the morning, with additional resources
available throughout the day and night. Multiple departments will
support the unit, including respiratory therapy and hospitalists
available 24/7. Technology in use includes an electronic medical
record system and IV pumps for medication administration. Floating
may occur to other units within the scope of practice.
Self-scheduling will be implemented, with staff signing up before
travelers. Holiday expectations will include working 50% of
