Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties This is a wage
position (up to 28 hours/week) with no benefits. This position
requires at minimum 16 hours/week as scheduled. The Department of
Behavioral Health and Developmental services support individuals by
promoting recovery, self-determination, and wellness in all aspects
of life. DBHDS operates 12 facilities: 8 behavioral health
facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility
for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for
behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly
structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness,
intellectual disability, or need substance use disorder services.

This position will work at Southern Virginia Mental Health
Institute, a 72-bed Joint Commission accredited State Mental Health
Facility, located in Danville, VA. DBHDS is seeking dedicated,
experienced Registered Nurse Professionals. A Registered Nurse II
at DBHDS is responsible for providing advanced nursing care for
patients with psychiatric disorders in accordance with hospital
policies and procedures, as well as nursing standards and
regulations. Registered Nurses are also responsible for safely
implementing the use of Seclusion/Restraints including knowledge of
physical/emotional risk factors of the patients served at the
facility. This position requires: Successfully complete BLS,
Therapeutic Options (TO) and other required training upon
employment at facility. Demonstrate effective interpersonal
communication skills, team focused care and professional approach.
Displays the ability to plan, implement and evaluate care utilizing
knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric and physical disorders, and
cultural needs of the individual psychiatric patient. Presents good
clinical knowledge and resource to staff. Experience/Ability to
delegate, supervise, evaluate nursing processes to help solve
complex problems. Must be willing to work rotating weekends and
holidays as scheduled. This position requires completion of a
4-week New Employee Orientation for on-the-job training.
Orientation hours are from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with a one hour lunch
break for Orientation Week 1 (no flexibility for Week 1) and then
as scheduled by the Nurse Educator for the remaining Orientation
Weeks 2-4, which will include some evenings/nights. NOTE: There is
some flexibility for the remaining orientation schedule with
coordination with the Nurse Educator; however, must be available to
attend orientation for a minimum of 16 hours/week to complete
orientation cycle. Competitive Shift Differentials: · 1st shift
weekend-$5.50 per hour · 2nd shift-weekday-$5.50 per hour/2nd shift
weekend/holidays-$6.00 per hour · 3rd shift-weekday-$4.00 per
hour/3rd shift weekend/holidays-$7.00 per hour Minimum
Qualifications Experience working as a Registered Nurse. Current
and in good standing Registered Nurse license to practice nursing
in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or license eligible; multi-state
compact endorsement is accepted. Valid driver's license is required
and must remain valid and in good standing throughout employment.
This position will also require: Knowledge of the theory and
practice of nursing and psychiatric nursing. Knowledge and skills
related to psychosocial rehabilitation/recovery models.

healthcare facility, acute care, long-term or correctional setting.
