that are new to state service and remain with the facility for 2
years. · $15,000 sign on bonus will be awarded to new hires to
state service with a one-year written agreement required. · An
additional $10,000 retention bonus will be awarded to new hires who
are hired after December 10, 2023. The retention bonus will be paid
out one year after hire date and require a one-year written

This is an entry level position for Registered Nurses (RN) who are
new graduates or have minimal RN experience. Assess patient’s
physical and mental condition and collaborate with patient and
other team members to identify needs in order to design
individualized person centered plans of care with the aim of
increasing psychosocial and recovery skills for individuals with
mental illnesses and to those with dual disorders. The Department
of Behavioral Health and Developmental services support individuals
by promoting recovery, self-determination, and wellness in all
aspects of life. DBHDS operates 12 facilities: 8 behavioral health
facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility
for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for
behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly
structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness,
intellectual disability, or need substance use disorder services.

This position will work at Southern Virginia Mental Health
Institute, a 72-bed Joint Commission accredited State Mental Health
Facility, located in Danville, VA. Registered Nurses are also
responsible for safely implementing the use of Seclusion/Restraints
including knowledge of physical/emotional risk factors of the
patients served at the facility. Positions are available for our
Night shift (7:00 pm - 7:30 am) RN float pool and will work 12-hour
shifts in a non-rotating Pitman schedule. This position may be
required to work overtime. This position will work weekends on a
rotating basis. This position requires completion of a consecutive
4-week New Employee Orientation for on-the-job training.
Orientation hours are from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with a one-hour lunch
break for Orientation Week 1 and then as scheduled by the Nurse
Educator for the remaining Orientation Weeks 2-4, which will
include some day and night shifts. Minimum Qualifications Graduate
of a Registered Nurse program. Current and in good standing
Registered Nurse license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of
Virginia, or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement is
accepted. Valid driver’s license is required and must remain active
throughout employment. This position will also require: Knowledge
of the theory and practice of nursing and psychiatric nursing.
Knowledge and skills related to psychosocial
rehabilitation/recovery models. Successfully complete BLS,
Therapeutic Options (TO) and other required training upon
employment at facility. Demonstrate effective interpersonal
communication skills, team focused care and professional approach.
Displays the ability to plan, implement and evaluate care utilizing
knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric and physical disorders, and
cultural needs of the individual psychiatric patient. Presents good
clinical knowledge and resource to staff. Ability to delegate,
supervise, evaluate nursing processes to help solve complex
problems. Additional Considerations Experience as a Registered
Nurse in a psychiatric, healthcare facility, acute care, long-term
or correctional setting. Veterans and people with National Service.
