Assists Patient Access Supervisor as needed. -The Team Leader
provides support and leadership for the daily operations of all
Patient Access functions while performing the day-to-day duties of
a Registrar. -Provides training and mentoring of staff, as
Ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical
information is obtained and entered in the registration system with
timeliness and accuracy. Distributes and explains forms, documents,
and educational handouts to patients or family members.
Meets with patient or patient's caregiver before or after admission
to exchange necessary information and documentation.
Provides explanation of process and addresses concerns and
questions. Admitting physician's office, nursing unit staff, and/or
other appropriate personnel regarding admission to exchange
necessary information and determine placement.
Schedules appointments and communicates scheduling changes with all
appropriate departments and coworkers. Verifies insurance benefits
and obtains precertification/authorization as necessary.
Reviews physician's orders for completeness and compliance
requirements, i.e., covered tests, prior authorizations, and
ensures forms and record completeness.
Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and
deductibles, or refers to financial counselors for follow up.
Calculates patient financial obligation and obtain and verifies the
accuracy of authorization when required.
Educates all registration staff on any changes pertinent to their
High school diploma or equivalent required Required Skills
Requires a minimum of three years combined experience with
scheduling, registration, billing, insurance verification and/or
collections. Minimum of three years working with the public.
Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Manage Care payers.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the
ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a
stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift
patterns including week-ends and holidays to insure appropriateness
and continuity of care for the patients of Sovah Health
