Job Description:

SOVAH Health - Danville The Birth Registrar prepares birth Certificates for all live births at SOVAH Danville, fetal death certificates, report of induced termination and spontaneous fetal death reports. The Birth Registrar will collect and report paternity information. Notarize Affidavits of Parentage after their completion to the state department of Vital Statistics and Child Support Enforcement Agency Completes any certification program and continuing education that may be required by state law to accurately perform birth certificate registration and assessment of paternity while working under the guidelines and process as defined by the state. Interacts with the parents to collect and document the birth information, delivering the appropriate forms to them and providing guidance in the completion of the forms to be submitted to office of vital statics. Provide parents with all legally required information about paternity establishment and child support services. Ensures Acknowledge of Paternity is filed completely and within Virginia requirements. Accurately files birth information in a timely manner as required by state law, maintaining back-up documentation according to state requirement. Reviews patient medical records and other resources, as needed, to obtain required birth information and maintains confidentiality with all PHI and HIPAA related information. Meets with auditors, according to state regulations, who visit the facility on a regular basis to monitor/audit the birth certificate and Acknowledgement of Paternity process, providing reports and data to them as needed. Job Requirements: Job Requirements ? Minimum Education High school diploma or equivalent required Required Skills Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Able to multi-task. Excellent telephone skills. Legible handwriting. Organized and ability to stay on strict timelines. Requires the use of office equipment, i.e. computer terminals, telephones, copiers, hole puncher, shredder, fax machine, etc. Requires a high degree of mental alertness and the ability to work under stressful conditions. Requires the ability to communicate with customers and answer numerous phone calls and relay messages accurately. Requires basic math and letter writing skills. Required Skills Completion of Virginia Birth Registrar within 30 days employment VA Notary Public license preferred, Required within 90 days of employment Minimum Work Experience Two years experience in medical setting preferred. At least 6-month computer experience required.
