We support the Universitys core mission of teaching by managing the undergraduate curriculum so that Carolina students may benefit from an outstanding, research-based, academically enriching undergraduate curriculum. The office supports faculty, administrators, and staff with the submission and approval process for all undergraduate curriculum proposals, including degree programs, majors, minors, concentrations, and undergraduate courses. It also oversees the faculty approval process for curriculum-related academic policies through its support of the Colleges Administrative Boards and sub-committees.The Office collaborates with several campus units to provide resources and tools to help support the maintenance, processes, and assessment of the curriculum. This includes a syllabus repository for faculty, an independent study learning contract submission form and approval workflow, curriculum- and student-related reporting dashboards, a course evaluation system, a transfer course re-evaluation submission and approval process, and an annual syllabus and learning contract assessment review.In addition, the Office provides leadership and support for several committees and administrative roles on campus that engage with and/or impact the curriculum, academic programs, policies, and procedures. This includes Directors of Undergraduate Studies (faculty positions), Student Services Managers, the Colleges Administrative Boards and sub-committees, Education Policy Committee, General Education Oversight Committee, Course Substitution Committee, New Student Orientation Committee, the Sitterson Teaching Award Committee, and implementation committees for new systems related to the undergraduate curricula.Position Summary:As a unit within Undergraduate Education (a division in the College of Arts & Sciences), the Office of Undergraduate Curricula oversees the undergraduate curriculum, including the General Education curriculum. The office manages the faculty-led review and approval process for undergraduate courses and programs. In this role, the office coordinates with academic units to ensure that best practices and policies related to scheduling and registration procedures for undergraduate courses are followed.The Student Services Specialist position is a key member of the offices management team and works with a variety of constituencies across the University, including undergraduate students, academic and student support staff, and department administrators. This position provides leadership and support for several key functions in the office. The primary responsibilities include:* Coordinate, manage, and administer all scheduling, registration, and communication processes for the First-Year Thriving program in the General Education curriculum. IDST 101 is a 1-credit required course for first-year students. It focuses on the science of learning, strategies for student success in a university environment, and topics of mental health. The program will offer approximately 190 class sections each academic year, taught by 50 instructors and enrolling 4,800 undergraduate students.* Develop and administer a comprehensive training program for newly hired undergraduate student services managers and scheduling officers in the College of Arts and Sciences. Provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities for all undergraduate student services managers and scheduling officers in the College, in collaboration with campus partners. * Provide temporary support to departments in the College on classroom scheduling, registration, and other student-support functions during periods of staff vacancies or temporary leaves. * Provide administrative support for the pre-registration process for required first-year foundational courses in the General Education curriculum. This requires management of a cross-functional project workflow involving several systems, offices, and key stakeholders.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:Bachelors degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:The Student Services Specialist position requires a high level of attention to detail and professionalism. Previous student services experience such as classroom scheduling, registration, or advising undergraduate students, etc. Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills are a must. The selected candidate much have excellent organizational skills, strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work well with others. Ability to work independently and multitask with a professional demeanor. Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and a Student Information Systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Banner).Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:At least two years of experience in higher education (e.g., academic affairs, student affairs) is strongly preferred. Experience with PeopleSofts SIS and scheduling software is also preferred.Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
