Responsibilities
Position Summary: The Program Coordinator will have 24-hour
responsibility for all issues concerning the residents of their
respective units as well as the staff working on them. Provide
supervision and support to the unit. Provide scheduling of
in-service training to all unit staff both in the unit specific
orientation and the facility wide orientation for Mental Health
Counselors (MHC) in response to the type of residents we are
serving. With on-going consultation with therapist, they will
monitor the unit activities and daily duties assigned to the MHC
working with them. In order to insure safety and consistency in
treating the residents, the Program Coordinator will have the
responsibility of encouraging the team approach to therapeutic
interventions. Provide annual evaluations and weekly, bi-weekly
supervision of performance to each of the staff members. The role
of the Program Coordinator is that of a resource, to the members of
the interdisciplinary treatment team in maintaining a therapeutic
milieu that fosters the achievement of the goals set by the
treatment team.
Qualifications
Physical Demands: Must be able to:
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Stand, walk, kneel, and reach while working with residents for
approximately 80-90% of the day
- Use the full range of body motion including handling and
physically restraining residents when necessary
- Perform First Aid and CPR Key Responsibilities: 1. Under direct
supervision, assists in the implementation of the treatment plan
for each resident, by completing monthly summary reports.
- Assists in providing safe delivery of care to meet the goals
and objectives of each resident's plan of care.
- Assists with the unit milieu to guide the development of
acceptable habits and attitudes by consistently and fairly
implementing the behavioral program, emphasizing good choices, and
positive interactions.
- Responds to crisis situations and manages resident behaviors in
accordance with the Behavioral Management Program.
- Completes documentation regarding resident supervision and
participation in the program in a timely manner.
- Oversee the delivery of psychoeducational groups in the
cottages (also known as 21 interventions). Ensure fidelity to the
Department of Medical Assistance Service regulations.
- Attend and participate in all unit meetings and trainings.
- Consistently follows the program activity schedule and
implements all safety and security procedures.
- Serve as a role model for residents.
- Make facility rounds continuously, stay visual to all
units.
- Ensure following of scheduled activities.
- Maintain appropriate staffing patterns.
- Assist with all approved resident passes and daily resident
transports.
- Ensure all room searches and safety and security checklists are
completed on each unit,
- Notify Program Operations Director and maintenance of all
facility issues or property destruction (if minor note on safety &
security checklist, major - notify maintenance worker, call
AOC).
- Document all call offs or early dismissals that may result in
mandatory stay-over and call AOC.
- Assign staff to units as indicated by Program Operations
Director, and ensure they receive breaks.
- Notify Program Operations Director for approval of any hours
worked outside of regular shift hours and any MHC schedule
changes.
- Review all incident reports and physical hold paperwork prior
to shift end and ensure competencies.
- Ensure pat downs are completed and documented.
- Serve as facility role model in implementing program and
providing intervention.
- Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Skills,
Knowledge and AbilitiesGood verbal and written skills, ability to
rotate shifts and units as necessary, and ability to maintain
resident's confidentiality. Knowledge of principles of psychology
and child growth and development are useful. Limit-setting,
responding to children and adolescents in a caring, mature manner,
while maintaining professional boundaries necessary. Must
consistently exhibit mental and emotional ability to understand and
perform the essential functions of the job. Education: Bachelor's
degree preferred or High school education required. Experience:
Five years related experience with adolescents and children or
related college coursework in a related field. Previous experience
with emotionally disturbed, intellectually disabled, individuals
with autism, or physically disabled persons preferred. Licensure:
Current driver's licensure with a good driving record, CPR
certification, First Aid Certificate, and Handle with Care. EEO
