Job Duties
This is an entry level position for Registered Nurses (RN) who are
new graduates or have minimal RN experience.The Department of
Behavioral Health and Developmental services support individuals by
promoting recovery, self-determination, and wellness in all aspects
of life. DBHDS operates 12 facilities: 8 behavioral health
facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility
for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for
behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly
structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness,
intellectual disability, or need substance use disorder services.
DBHDS is committed to a life of possibilities for all Virginians.
This position will work at Southern Virginia Mental Health
Institute, a 72-bed Joint Commission accredited State Mental Health
Facility, located in Danville, VA.Registered Nurses are also
responsible for safely implementing the use of Seclusion/Restraints
including knowledge of physical/emotional risk factors of the
patients served at the facility.Positions are available for night
shift (two 12-hour shifts from 7:00 pm - 7:30 am and two 8-hour
shifts from 11:00 pm - 7:30 am). This position may be required to
work overtime. This position will work weekends on a rotating
basis.
Minimum Qualifications
Successfully complete BLS, Therapeutic Options (TO) and other
required training upon employment at facility.Demonstrate effective
interpersonal communication skills, team focused care and
professional approach.Displays the ability to plan, implement and
evaluate care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric and
physical disorders, and cultural needs of the individual
psychiatric patient.Presents good clinical knowledge and resource
to staff.Ability to delegate, supervise, evaluate nursing processes
to help solve complex problems.Current and in good standing
Registered Nurse license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of
Virginia, or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement is
accepted.Must have a valid driver's license.
Additional Considerations
Experience as a Registered Nurse in a psychiatric, healthcare
facility, acute care, long-term or correctional setting.Veterans
and people with National Service.Bilingual fluency in Spanish and
English.
