As our Technology Transformation keeps growing and our products keep evolving, we find it important that we get full insight into how our technology ecosystem is connected and performing. As an expert observability engineer you will help the teams with ensuring the right metrics are in our monitoring tool set so they get insight in how and what their service or feature is doing. As you know it does not stop with monitoring to get full observability. You will be a key component in driving this culture of observability. You understand this is the most critical component of improving reliability and the best way to allow developers to focus on transformational efforts that help our organization continue moving forward. A day in the life of a Site Reliability Engineer at CarMax: You&39;ll be reporting directly to the Site Reliability Manager, and will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to: You will collaborate and guide our Application Engineering and Infrastructure teams to ensure our Applications and Infrastructure are emitting the right metrics. You will continuously refine monitoring processes, thresholds, and configuration(SLO/SLI) Collect, aggregate, and visualize the collected metrics to provide actionable insights. Error budget is critical component for you as it&39;s backed by data Ensure observability is built in from the start of our new generation of the product You understand in order to improve you need to know where you are right now (metrics help with this) You will make it easy for the applications teams to ensure they get the right metrics in, this can be done by writing tooling Apply data modeling and predictive analysis to anticipate potential issues before they manifest Identify critical metrics to monitor and alert on to surface actual user issues Participate in Scrum processes and ceremonies Building software to help operations and support teams Required Skills - What you&39;ll bring to the organization. Track record of working as a Site Reliability Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or a Software Engineer Experience in modern observability tools, such as Splunk, App Dynamics, Grafana, Datadog, Signalfx , Logs.io, prometheus You feel at home in concepts like Infrastructure as Code, ARM templates, and CI/CD You have experience with many of the following tools like Team City, Azure Dev Ops, Ansible, Terraform , Jenkins, etc. Understanding how to monitor environments like Azure, Windows, Linux, IIS, Kubernetes, Docker, etc. Able to inspire other people to work with you, enjoy mentoring and coaching other engineers You know how applications work, what it needs and how communication flows after seeing a diagram You can effectively help define SLO & SLI&39;s with Application and Infrastructure teams. You trust in data to make good decisions You are passionate and relentless about reliable and stable systems.
