Job Description:
Position Summary The Department of Radiation Oncology at the
University of North Carolina is seeking a faculty medical physicist
for the North Carolina Cancer Center, a member of the UNC Health
Care system, located in Chapel Hill, NC. The North Carolina Cancer
Center is currently staffed with 13 Radiation Oncologists, 7
Dosimetrists, 12 Medical Physicists, and 1 IT specialist. The North
Carolina Cancer Center clinic is equipped with 2 Elekta Versa
accelerators, 1 Elekta Infinity accelerator, 1 CyberKnife system, 1
Tomotherapy Hi-Art system, 1 Mobetron intraoperative accelerator, 1
Elekta HDR system, a VariSeed LDR prostate system, and 1 Phillips
large bore CT simulator. The Center is in the process of installing
an MR-simulator. Clinical treatment planning systems ( TPS )
include Raystation TPS , Accuray Precision TPS for CyberKnife,
Oncentra HDR Brachy TPS , and VariSeed LDR Brachy TPS ; Record and
Verify uses Mosaiq. Ancillary systems include VisionRT. The ideal
candidate for this faculty position is expected to become actively
involved in a wide range of clinical, research, and teaching duties
within the Department and School of Medicine. Clinical duties: The
successful candidate will provide clinical radiation therapy
physics services for UNC’s IMRT / VMAT , IGRT , SBRT , SRS and
brachytherapy programs. The candidate will perform staff physicist
duties such as chart checking, machine calibrations, and quality
assurance. The candidate will oversee and direct junior staff
during acceptance and commissioning of equipment, gathering of
dosimetry data, as well as external beam and brachytherapy
treatment planning. The candidate will be responsible for the
precise and accurate delivery of radiation treatment plans and for
the safety of patients and treatment staff. Research: The
successful candidate must be motivated to actively pursue research
opportunities with the potential to secure extramural funding. A
strong interest in pursuing academic research is crucial to this
position. Residency Program: The department supports a CAMPEP
-accredited Medical Physics Residency Program and, as such,
mentoring of residents is expected. Preferred Qualifications,
Competencies, And Experience The ideal candidate should have strong
technical skills, a commitment to research and teaching, and
excellent verbal and written communications skills. A successful
record of medical physics research and publications is highly
desired. Experience in IMRT / VMAT , IGRT , HDR brachytherapy, SRS
, and SBRT are important. Experience with the use and commissioning
of RT treatment planning and delivery (especially IMRT / VMAT , SRS
/ SRT / SBRT ), and R&V systems is highly valued.
